Tips & Advice

Arrive at game site 45-60 minutes before game time. If you will be running late but still will arrive in time to work game, call host school AD.

• Pre-game discussion with your partners is a must. Do not walk onto the  floor without having a pre-game meeting.
• Dress the part, act professional, hustle, leave your ego at home, and do your best to treat coaches respectfully.
• Follow the NFHS rule book and manual.
• Be sure to have pre-game meeting with captains and Head coaches.
• Remember the Head Coach must stay in the coaches box. A warning for being out of the box has been eliminated. Keep in mind this is not a license to kill. Common sense must still enter in to you decision to penalize.
• You are not judged by how many calls you make, but by the quality of the calls.
• Have the guts to make the tough call when the game is on the line.
• Have confidence in your partners. Let them call their area and you call yours.
• Don’t screw up the last 2-3 minutes of a close game.
• If the coach asks a question in a respectful manner, please try to answer him/her and move on. Don’t get in an argument with the coach. You’re  the one who should remain calm, cool, and collected.
